Which route does the Bernina Express run on?

The Bernina Express train runs on the route from Chur or St. Moritz to Tirano or vice versa. The journey takes around 4 hours and 30 minutes , although shorter parts of the route are also possible. It is possible to get on or off along the route in Thusis, Filisur, Bergün, Pontresina, Bernina Diavolezza, Alp Grüm, Poschiavo and Le Prese. Please note that there are certain minimum distances and not all combinations are possible. The Bernina Express Bus can be used to extend the journey from Tirano to Lugano or vice versa. This journey takes just under 3 hours .

Does the Bernina Express run all year?

The Bernina Express train runs all year . From the end of October to mid-May according to a winter timetable, and from mid-May to the end of October with the summer timetable . The Bernina Express Bus operates between mid-February and the end of November . For more detailed information on travel times and possible restrictions on the route, we advise you to consult the current timetable . To secure your seat, we also recommend booking early .

Can I choose the travel times myself?

For the journey on the Bernina Express , we reserve your seats depending on availability and in line with the travel program . It is not possible to select a specific train when booking. However, you can indicate your preferred departure times in the comments field . We will do our best to take these into account, but cannot guarantee them. You are flexible when it comes to the arrival and return journey from your starting point and destination in Switzerland. You can choose your own connections in accordance with the SBB timetable .

Which travel classes are available on the Bernina Express?

On the Bernina Express, you have the choice between 1st class and 2nd class . 1st class offers a particularly high level of comfort , with a generous 2+1 seating arrangement and more space . In 2nd class, the seats are a little closer together with a 2+2 seating arrangement . Both classes have the same panoramic windows , which offer a spectacular view. The journey from Tirano to Lugano takes place by bus . There is no distinction between travel classes on the bus – all passengers travel in the same standard .

Are there catering options on the Bernina Express?

The Bernina Express has a moving minibar that offers a selection of snacks and drinks. If you wish, you can also bring your own food and enjoy it during the journey. Please note that there is no dining car .
