Which route does the Glacier Express run on?

The Glacier Express runs on the route from Zermatt to St. Moritz or the other way round . The journey takes around 8 hours , although shorter sections are also possible. You can get on or off the train along the route in Zermatt, Brig, Andermatt, Chur, Filisur, Samedan, and St. Moritz. Please note that there are certain minimum distances and not all combinations are possible.

Does the Glacier Express run all year?

The Glacier Express runs daily , with the exception of the annual operating break from mid-October to the beginning of December. The trains run from December to April in accordance with a winter timetable and from May to October according to a summer timetable . For more detailed information on travel times and possible restrictions on the route, we advise you to consult the current timetable . We also recommend booking early to secure your seat.

Can I choose the travel times myself?

For the journey on the Glacier Express we reserve your seats depending on availability and in line with the travel program . It is not possible to select a specific train when booking. However, you can indicate your preferred departure times in the comments field . We will try to take these into account, but cannot guarantee them. However, you are flexible when arriving and returning from your starting point and destination in Switzerland. You can choose the connections yourself according to the SBB timetable .

Which travel classes are available on the Glacier Express?

On the Glacier Express, you have a choice of three travel classes: Excellence Class , 1st Class, and 2nd Class . The main difference between the classes lies in the seating and the service . Excellence Class offers the highest level of comfort with exclusive service. There are double and quadruple compartments in 1st class and only quadruple compartments in 2nd class. Service at your seat is also offered in 1st and 2nd class, which you can add directly when booking . All travel classes have the same panoramic windows .

Are there catering options on the Glacier Express?

In Excellence Class , you enjoy a 5-course menu with wine accompaniment and drinks included in the price. In 1st and 2nd class , you have the choice between menus of the day or a la carte dishes . The offer varies depending on the route and time of travel. We recommend that you select your preferred menu at the time of booking . Availability may be reduced without advance booking, depending on the train's capacity.
