This journey begins in St. Gallen and takes you on the Voralpen-Express to Lucerne. Take the Treno Gottardo over the Gotthard mountain route to Locarno. From there you take the Centovalli Railway to Domodossola (Italy) and through the Valais to Montreux.

Day 1
St. Gallen - Lucerne / approx. 2h20
Arrival by public transport from your starting point in Switzerland to St. Gallen. Travel on the Voralpen-Express. Overnight stay in Lucerne.
Highlights: Drive over the highest railway viaduct, past Rapperswil and Lake Zurich, upland moor near Rothenthurm
Day 2
Onward journey from Lucerne with the Treno Gottardo via the Gotthard mountain route to Locarno in 1st class. Overnight stay in Locarno
Highlights: Treno Gottardo, over 200 bridges, Locarno - the warmest city in Switzerland, Lake Maggiore
Day 3
Locarno - Domodossola / approx. 3.5h
Continue with the Centovalli train in 2nd class to Domodossola (Italy) and on to Montreux. Overnight stay in Montreux.

Day 4
Return trip by public transport from Montreux to your final destination in Switzerland or extend your stay.
