Sustainable Travel in Switzerland
Experience the breathtaking diverse natural beauty of Switzerland – sustainably and responsibly. With our environmentally friendly travel offers and travel tips, you can actively contribute to preserving the natural beauty of the country. As part of Switzerland Tourism's Swisstainable sustainability programme, we work with you to promote responsible travel.
Climate-friendly travel
- Travel by public transport such as train, bus or boat. Switzerland has the densest transport network in the world, meaning you can reach any destination easily and conveniently.
Save energy and resources
- Observe energy and water-saving measures in your accommodation: turn off lights and electronic devices when not in use and limit towel and bedding changes.
Support local products and businesses
- Choose accommodation, restaurants and shops that use regional produce and are run by local businesses. This supports the local economy and minimises the environmental impact of transporting produce.
Respect nature
- Respect flora and fauna by disposing of rubbish properly, staying on marked hiking trails and protecting sensitive ecosystems such as lakes and forests. Take nothing but photos and memories and leave only footprints.
Hiking and cycling
- Explore Switzerland sustainably by hiking or cycling as a means of transport. There are numerous well-marked hiking and cycling trails that take you through breathtaking landscapes.
Reduce plastic consumption
- Avoid buying single-use plastic products. Carry a reusable drinks bottle made from glass or stainless steel instead and take a reusable shopping bag with you to avoid plastic bags.
We are Swisstainable
We are part of the Swisstainable programme. Together with our partners, we are committed to implementing social and environmental sustainability. Our membership of the Swisstainable programme is recognised at Level I – committed.
