Travel information
Sustainable travel in Switzerland
Experience the breathtaking natural beauty of Switzerland in all its diversity – sustainably and responsibly. With our environmentally friendly travel offers and travel tips, you can actively contribute to preserving the natural beauty of this country. As part of Switzerland Tourism's Swisstainable sustainability program, we work with you to promote responsible travel.
Climate-friendly travel
- Travel by public transport such as train, bus or boat. Switzerland has the densest public transport network in the world. You can reach any destination easily and conveniently by public transport.
Saving energy and resources
- Observe energy and water-saving measures in your accommodation, such as switching off lights and electronic devices when not in use and limiting the washing of towels and bed linens.
Support for local products and companies
- Opt for accommodation, restaurants, and stores that use local products and are run by regional companies. In this way, you strengthen the local economy and promote short transportation routes.
Respect for nature
- Respect flora and fauna by disposing of your waste properly, not leaving hiking trails, and protecting sensitive ecosystems such as lakes and forests. Take nothing with you except for photos and memories and leave nothing but footprints.
Hiking and cycling
- Explore Switzerland in a sustainable way by using hiking and cycling as a means of transportation. There are numerous well-marked hiking and cycling trails that take you through breathtaking landscapes.
Reduction of plastic consumption
- Avoid buying single-use plastic products such as water bottles and instead use reusable drinking bottles made of materials such as glass or stainless steel. Also take a reusable shopping bag with you to avoid plastic bags.
We are Swisstainable
We are part of the Swisstainable program. Together with our partners, we are committed to implementing social and environmental sustainability. Our membership of the Swisstainable program is recognized at Level I - committed.
