Switzerland

Best times to visit

From hot summer days on lakes and rivers to fun in the snow in the mountains: Switzerland is not only interesting from its topography – it also offers four seasons that make every trip a special experience. Plan your Swiss adventure according to your needs and enjoy the many possibilities. By the way: our experts recommend the best time to travel on our trips.

Spring in bloom

March – May

Spring in Switzerland is popular: the mild season brings pleasant temperatures and shows nature from its blooming side. Lower-lying regions in particular, such as western Switzerland or Ticino, offer inviting hikes through idyllic, unspoilt landscapes. There may still be snow in the mountains, allowing winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy a few last descents.

Beautiful summer

June – August

Summer is the ideal time for outdoor activities. Temperatures between 18 and 30 degrees offer the best conditions for mountain hikes, bike tours and cooling off in the many lakes and rivers. It is usually cooler in the Alps, which is why they are often travelled to on hot days.

  • Tip: Sun protection, hiking boots, swimming gear and airy clothing should be in your luggage.

Colourful autumn

September – November

Forests and landscapes glow in all shades of red, orange and gold: autumn transforms Switzerland into its most colourful form. Temperatures are average, there are rainy days here and there – but the clear air makes hikes, for example in the vineyards of Lavaux, or sightseeing in a city like Lausanne, Basel or Bern particularly appealing.

  • Tip: Pack warm layers as it can get chilly in the evening.

Active winter

December – February

All white: Switzerland turns into a snow paradise in winter. Skiers and snowboarders will find fantastic conditions in the mountain regions – whether in Graubünden, the Bernese Oberland or Valais. At lower altitudes, romantic Christmas markets and snow-covered towns make for wonderful moments. Time for a delicious fondue!

  • Tip: Winter-proof clothing, snowshoes and accessories such as gloves and hats are a must.
