Which route does the Glacier Express run on?

The Glacier Express runs on the route from Zermatt to St. Moritz or vice versa . The journey takes around 8 hours , although shorter sections are also possible. It is possible to get on or off the train along the route in Zermatt, Brig, Andermatt, Chur, Filisur, Samedan and St. Moritz. Please note that there is a minimum travel distance and therefore not all combinations are possible.

Does the Glacier Express run all year round?

The Glacier Express runs daily , with the exception of the annual operating break from mid-October to the beginning of December. The trains run to the winter timetable from December to April and to the summer timetable from May to October. For more detailed information on journey times and possible disruption on the route, we advise you to consult the current timetable . To secure your seat, we also recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment.

Can I choose what time I travel myself?

For the journey on the Glacier Express we reserve your seats depending on availability and in line with the travel programme . It is not possible to select a specific train when booking. However, you can indicate your preferred departure time in the comments field . We will endeavour to take these into account, but cannot guarantee them. However, you are flexible when travelling to and from your starting point and destination in Switzerland. You can choose your own connections according to the SBB timetable .

What travel classes are available on the Glacier Express?

On the Glacier Express, you have a choice of three travel classes: Excellence Class , 1st Class and 2nd Class . The main difference between the classes lies in the seating and the service . Excellence Class offers the highest level of comfort with exclusive service and a guaranteed window seat in tables of two. The seating is arranged in tables of two and four in 1st class and only tables of four in 2nd class. In 1st and 2nd class, an at-seat lunch service is also offered, which you can add on when making a booking . All travel classes have the same panoramic windows .

Are there catering options on the Glacier Express?

In Excellence Class , you enjoy an included 5-course menu with wine pairing and drinks. In 1st and 2nd class , you have the choice between daily menus or a la carte dishes . The offer varies depending on the route and time of travel. We recommend that you select your preferred menu when you book . Without advance booking, the offer may be reduced depending on demand from other clients onboard.
