Social responsibility
HEKS has received annual support from Switzerland Travel Centre since 2017. With projects in more than 30 countries on four continents in Switzerland and abroad, HEKS is committed to a more humane, fairer world and a life in dignity. In Switzerland, HEKS is committed to the rights and integration of refugees and socially disadvantaged people. The focus abroad is on the development of rural communities, emergency aid, reconstruction and peace-building, regardless of ethnic group or religion.
Project example Switzerland
The HEKS regional office in Zurich/Schaffhausen is committed to the integration of socially disadvantaged people and advocates for asylum seekers and migrants so that they have a chance of a fair asylum procedure and can exercise their rights in society. The projects and programmes aim to promote the independence and social belonging of the participants.

Project example Abroad
HEKS has been active in Brazil for many years and supports indigenous communities and smallholder families there in their struggle for access to land and for the sustainable use of natural resources such as forests and water as well as for the preservation of their livelihoods. These livelihoods are threatened above all by the advance of large plantations and the exploitation of natural resources.

HEKS was founded in 1946 by the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches. As the relief organisation of the Protestant churches in Switzerland, HEKS places the dignity of every human being at the centre of its commitment. All people should be able to lead a dignified and safe life in social, economic and political terms.
