Your itinerary
Basel
Item 1 of 2
Day 1
Arrival in Basel. Get a first impression of the beautifully decorated town with its setting along the river Rhine. Explore the secret ‘Magical Courtyards’ and try local dishes offered. The Christmas markets are usually open until 8.30pm. Overnight stay in Basel.
Highlights: medieval town Basel, the grandest Christmas markets in Switzerland, with decorations and brightly painted chalet stalls.
Day 2
Cross the border to Germany to visit the markets of the Black Forest in Freiburg. Overnight stay in Basel.
Highlights: traditional Glühwein, Freiburger Münster, historic old town
Day 3
Journey to Colmar, the charming Alsace. Overnight stay in Basel.
Highlights: 6 Christmas markets and a city decorated as in a Fairytale, pain d’épices, the wine caves
Day 4
If time allows go on a lastminute shopping spree – maybe to the Johann Wanner Christmas house to top up on festive decorations to take home, or the classic sweet treat ‘Basler Läckerli’ – before returning home.
