Your Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival by public transport from your starting point in Switzerland to Interlaken.
Highlights: Lake Thun, Interlaken
Day 2
Travel by train from Interlaken to Brienz, where you board the famous Brienzer Rothorn train. A steam locomotive will push two carriages from Brienz all the way up to Rothorn Kulm, with the journey taking an hour in total to travel 1678 m in altitude. After some time at leisure on the mountain top, make your way down to Brienz where you board a boat for a lake cruise on the crystal blue Lake Brienz which will take you back to Interlaken.

Day 3
Today is at leisure, make use of your Swiss Travel Pass and discover the wider Bernese Oberland region. One of the most famous mountains in Switzerland is the Jungfraujoch, where you will get a reduction on this excursion to the “Top of Europe” with your Swiss Travel Pass.
Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 4
Schynige Platte is known as “Top of Swiss Tradition”, where you get to enjoy alphorn concerts daily as well as a unique Botanical alpine garden. The railway from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte was built in 1893 and is a heritage line offering a nostalgic experience of a bygone era and provides stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Day 5
With your Swiss Travel Pass we recommend exploring Interlaken’s other lake. Join a historic paddle steamer on Lake Thun to the medieval town of Thun. The famous castle is well worth exploring. We recommend booking a guided tour locally or simply enjoy the waterfront and the pedestrian area full of shops.

Day 6
Travel by train to Oberwald, in the canton of Valais to board the historic Furka Steam Railway, which takes you back to the golden age of steam trains in Switzerland. The journey leads from Oberwald through the central alps and over the historic Glacier Express route to Realp. Travel back to Interlaken by train.

Day 7
Brünig Steam Railway
(OPTIONAL, running only on last Sunday of the month, exact dates are below)
Discover a hidden gem for steam locomotive enthusiasts! You start in Interlaken Ost with a guided visit to the locomotive depot, where your steam locomotive will be prepared for you. After boarding, you travel alongside Lake Brienz to Meiringen. From here, the steam train with cogwheel will take you up to the Brünig Pass. Experience your locomotive steaming up to the summit and enjoy the beautiful scenery. During the descent to Giswil, marvel at the view of the idyllic Lake Lungern, nestled in the Swiss mountain meadows far below you. Treat yourself to a delicious lunch of local specialities in Giswil. After your lunch break, enjoy a relaxing ride back to Interlaken Ost.

Day 8
Return trip by public transport from Interlaken to your final destination in Switzerland or extend your stay.
