On parle français! In the Lower Valais and on Lake Geneva, Swiss clockwork ticks a little more leisurely. You can take it just as easy on this bike tour for connoisseurs. You will soon turn your back on the castles and palaces of Sion, but equally charming landscapes lie ahead. Pass the nature reserve Les Grangettes and the romantic Chillon Castle. Montreux is a poem, as is the ride through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lavaux. This bike tour is a pleasure from start to finish.
Arrival in Brig
Travel by public transport from your starting point in Switzerland to Brig. Overnight stay in Brig.
Brig – Susten
You leave the Stockalper Palace behind and drive through small villages and settlements. Visible from afar is the castle church of Raron, which towers high above the valley. The destination of today's ride is the small village of Susten, which is located at the gates of the Pfynwald Nature Park.
Details: approx. 35 km ↑ 130 m ↓ 170 m
Susten – Sion
In the meantime, the river has changed its name: as soon as you reach the Lower Valais at Sierre, you no longer speak of the Rotten - you now also officially follow the Rhone. The castles of Tourbillon and Valeria await you at the end of today's ride. Treat yourself to a glass of wine in the bilingual cantonal capital of Sion!
Details: approx. 30 km ↑ 90 m ↓ 240 m
Sion – Martigny
Orchards and vineyards dominate the valley and the white peaks of the 3,000-metre peaks greet us from far above for the last time. A detour to Saillon is worthwhile. In the counterfeit money museum you will discover coins from all over the world and learn about the local hero and coin counterfeiter Joseph-Samuel Farinet.
If you visit an exchange office in Sion, you can even obtain your own currency, the "Farinet", which you can use to pay in certain places in the Lower Valais. The ruins of the La Bâtiaz fortress will eventually show you the way to Martigny.
Details: approx. 30 km ↑ 100 m ↓ 120 m
Martigny – Montreux
High above, a round tower guards Martigny on the Rhone bend, St-Maurice at the narrowest point in the valley guards golden church treasures. High mountains and lowlands, still hidden behind reeds, the expanse of Lac Léman, and then defiantly the fortress of Chillon Castle in the water.
Details: ca. 50 km ↑ 180 m ↓ 270 m
Montreux – Lausanne
Lac Léman, a small silvery sea surrounded by snowy peaks and vineyards, like the Unesco World Heritage Site of Lavaux. Along the shore: Vevey, Montreux, and the metropolis of Lausanne, "Olympic city" and lifeblood of the Vaudois population.
Details: approx. 30 km ↑ 455 m ↓ 455 m
Departure
Return trip by public transport from Lausanne to your final destination in Switzerland or extend your stay (on request).
An easy tour with only a few metres of altitude. The tour through Lavaux is made easier with a ride up Mont-Pèlerin. There may be a little more traffic around the towns.
